Description

Young people growing up in some of the most disadvantaged neighborhoods in the UK have always faced an uphill struggle.

Homes are often overcrowded spaces where there’s no quiet place to study, devices must be shared among siblings, and families under financial strain can’t afford private tutoring or extracurricular activities. Few young people achieve the grades needed to attend university.

As a result, many families become trapped in a cycle where disadvantage is passed from one generation to the next — creating communities where poverty and educational underachievement have gone hand in hand for decades.

The pandemic made things even harder. Months of lost learning, along with missed opportunities for work experience and skills development, have widened the gap. In the most deprived neighborhoods, poverty has deepened, and the hill to climb is now steeper than ever.

In these communities, IntoUniversity centers provide young people with a safe, supportive space to learn, explore, and thrive, right in the heart of their neighborhoods — a warm, welcoming “home away from home.”

Through after-school study sessions, mentoring programs, and our FOCUS programme — which inspires ambition and provides long-term, dedicated support — we help young people break the cycle of disadvantage and unlock their potential.
